What Happens with your Complaint?

We will contact you to let you know your complaint has been received. Based on what you tell us, and what you have already tried to do to resolve your concern, we will inform you in writing if we can be of assistance and if we will conduct a full review.

If we cannot assist, we will explain why and attempt to direct you to someone who can.

What Happens next?

A full review can include:

  • A review of documentation
  • Interviews with the complainant, Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW)/Contracted Private Agency personnel, the child, family members and other adults invovled with the child, and other professionals working with the child and family

Some reviews take time. We will notify you approximately every 30 days about the status of the review.

After the Review is completed

When our work is complete, we will:

  • Notify you whether or not the BMCW acted correctly or incorrectly regarding the complaint
  • Notify you of recommendations (if any) made to the BMCW as a result of this review
  • Share appropriate information with the BMCW that will help to better serve children and families
  • Make recommendations to the State of Wisconsin as appropriate about how child welfare policy and practice could be improved to increase the safety, permanency and well-being of children served by the BMCW.
