Benefits to the Community

The Ombudsman is the first independent, impartial reviewer of complaints about the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare (BMCW).

  • Promotes public confidence in the child welfare system in Milwaukee County through objective, thorough, and timely reviews of case-specific complaints
  • Findings and recommendations are reported to the State of Wisconsin, Secretary of Health and Family Services and are available to the public
  • The Office will continue to track and report on action or inaction related to its findings and recommendations
  • The Office may offer recommendations related to systemic issues that emerge as a result of case-specific reviews
